Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR)
One of the ways you can help the church is by joining the PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) program. Scheduled PAR transactions are automatically transferred monthly from your bank account to the church’s bank account. It improves stewardship, encourages consistency, and increases our administrative effectiveness. If you would like to sign up for the PAR program, fill in one of the forms in the pews or contact Winston Babin at 613-830-8826 for more information.
Cash and Cheques
Cash and cheques are the most common way people give to the church. Make cheques payable to “Orleans United Church.” If you would like your cash gifts to be recorded for tax purposes, use an offering envelope and be sure to write your name and address clearly. Unless you designate a specific fund or ministry, all gifts are directed to the General Fund, which supports our ministries.
Envelopes
For those interested, the church provides envelopes for weekly offerings, which are recorded. If you would like to sign up to receive giving envelopes, please email orleansunited@rogers.com or call the office at 613-837-4321.
Other Ways to Give
Gifts of Marketable Securities (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds)
Our church welcomes donations of securities such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. If securities have been held for more than one year and are donated directly to the church, the donor receives a charitable donation receipt for the full fair market value of the securities and avoids paying any tax on the capital gain. If, on the other hand, the securities are sold first and then the proceeds are given to the church, the donor still has to pay capital gain taxes to the CRA. A little planning in this area can help you take full advantage of the tax benefits allowed by the government.
A transfer of securities to Orleans United can be easily facilitated through The United Church of Canada Foundation for a very small fee. The Foundation will receive securities, issue you a tax donation receipt and forward the proceeds directly to Orleans United. For more information, contact Paul Sales, the United Church Financial Development Officer for our area, at 613-841-9291 or psales@united-church.ca,
Payroll Deduction
Many companies allow their employees to make donations to charitable organizations through payroll deductions. The church is listed as a chartable organization by the Canada Revenue Agency and our registration number is 130563240RR0001.
Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign For Employees
The Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) offers its employees the opportunity to choose which charities they give to and to choose the form of payment.
To give to Orleans United Church through GCWCC, please identify its registration number: 130563240RR0001. Your donation will appear on your T4 slip the following year, so you don’t have to keep track of multiple receipts.
Personal Property (Gifts-in-kind)
Over the years, the church has been given tables, chairs, equipment, office supplies, books, and more. We gratefully accept gifts-in-kind that we can truly use, or we try to direct donors to other ministries that have specific needs.
Please contact the church office to discuss any possible gift-in-kind donations. We will then determine whether we can use the items. If a fair market value can be determined, the church will provide a tax receipt for the item.
Wills and Bequests
A bequest gift in your will or estate plan is a meaningful great way to express your gratitude for all the blessings you have received in the course of your life. It also allows you to become a partner with future generations and ministries at Orleans United Church.
By naming Orleans United Church in your will, your estate will receive a charitable donation receipt which will reduce estate taxes. It is important that the designation include the full name and address of the Church. For further help on the wording, or if you wish to direct your gift to specific ministries, Paul Sales, our local United Church Financial Development Officer, will be happy to help you: contact him at 613-841-9291 or psales@united-church.ca.
If you have already included the church in your will, please let us know so that we can say “thank you”!
Life Insurance, RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs
Don’t forget that all or part of a life insurance policy, Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Registered Retired Income Fund (RRIF), or Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) can be designated as a gift to the Church. Like a bequest in your will, it can be an excellent way to partner with future generations and ministries of Orleans United.
If you name Orleans United Church as full or partial beneficiary of any of these funds, the funds will transfer directly to the Church without going through your will, and your estate will receive a charitable donation receipt for the gift, helping it to reduce taxes.
Your decision re: the best way to create this type of legacy gift should involve a good discussion with your financial/estate planner or advisor. Paul Sales, United Church Financial Development Officer, is also available to provide further information at 613-841-9291 or psales@united-church.ca.
“In Memory of…” Tribute Gifts
We appreciate gifts that are designated in memory of loved ones, family members, friends and others. We are grateful for those who have uniquely remembered a loved one by making a financial gift in their memory to the ministries of Orleans United Church. Relatives or close friends may choose to designate a gift for any established fund of the church.
“In Honor of…” Tribute Gifts
We are thankful for gifts to Orleans United that are designated in honor of loved ones, family members, friends, ministry leaders, pastors, mentors, and others, or in celebration of life events, such as baptisms, confirmations, marriages and anniversaries. Relatives or close friends may choose to designate a gift for any established fund of the church.
Your generosity enables the Orleans United Church to love, serve, and minister.
Never made a donation before?
The federal Government has introduced a tax incentive to encourage giving.
If you’ve haven’t claimed any charitable contributions in the last 5 years on your income tax, you is the time. You might be eligible for a one-time super credit that can almost double your deduction. You qualify as a first-time donor if neither you or your spouse or common law partner claimed the charitable tax credit or first-time donor super credit in any taxation year after 2007. For more information visits the Canada Revenue Agency website cra.gc.ca/fdsc for First-Time Donor’s Super Credit.
