HELP Hints – August 2021 At some point we will all be impacted by frailty, illness, end of life, caregiving, and/or grieving. Are you comfortable talking about these experiences? Research shows many people find these conversations difficult to initiate. Sometimes it is easier, or less intimidating, to talk about heavy topics when they are introduced in film. Below is a list of movies that introduce and explore frailty, illness, dying, caregiving, and grieving: The Father Sound of Metal A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood Two Popes Coco* Waking Ned Devine The Bucket List The Fault in our Stars Patch Adams* Up* The Lovely Bones Steel Magnolias (* refers to child-friendly movies) Watching these films with loved ones may make these heavy topics more approachable. We encourage you to use these as tools to open the door for conversations, questions, and reflections. How have you started or nurtured discussions about frailty, illness, death, caregiving, and/or grieving? Please share your ideas or experiences with the HELP team.
